The Underneath

His concealed rage reaches
through an unbreakable silence;
suffocation of his mind breathes
 for a controlled balance/

  and there he stands,
his own victim, trapped
inside the casket of insanity.

Collapsed lungs fight against the wall of internal pain.
Smothered into alertness,
 his pulse beats against the respiratory
failure of his brain.

He searches for a way out;

a self destructive soul
tortured in the hollow halls of mental chains
and colliding walls of airless grain.

He calls for forgiveness, but echoes bounce back
into the eardrums guilt.

Sound proof screams radiate through the tunnels
of the underneath; a world of deep darkness

where his morality has fallen,

  buried alive

by the sins of his own callin’
