AUTUMN MAGIC

By Dori Wheeler

AUTUMN MAGIC

Mosaic quilts cloak the trees
Weeks before the winter freeze
Dappled hues of garnet and gold
Majestic season, bright and bold
~
Grab your besom, clear your space
Rid the evil, not a trace
Cast the circle, call the quarters
Sabot for sons and daughters
~
God and Goddess we implore
Too eminent to ignore
Dance and chant 'round the fire
Bidding for our desire
~
Merriment beneath the moon
Magic raised 'til we swoon
Invigorating is the air
Ground the power with great care
~
This our favored time of year
The veil ethereal, the lift is near
Ancestors free to come and go
Oh, how we love it so...

TIME, BITTER ENEMY

By Dori Wheeler

TIME, BITTER ENEMY

Time, bitter enemy
Encapsulated dismay
Encroachment on the morrow
She's but weakened prey
~
Dreams of another place in life
Her only escape is slumber
Though visits very rarely
Fleeting like Autumn thunder
~
Time bitter enemy
Brings forth another day
The suffering continues
Please, whisk her world away
~
Dreams of another place in time
Permit the golden light
Lift the veil to the other-side
For she has no more fight....

THE ONLY COURSE

By Dori Wheeler

THE ONLY COURSE

No longer tethered to a man

Still, I arrive upon a dark horse

Shattered dreams, a flash in the pan

Appeared to me, the only course

~

Our love strong, or so I thought

In the embrace of another

With shock and dismay, he was caught

My whole world, there were none other

~

Vows betrayed before my very eyes

"Til death do us part", rings in my head

There would not be  a compromise

Shots fired, they're both dead

~

Crimson pools, and rivers flow

I'm in shock from the dreadful sight

Guess there will be no after glow

It all made sense, I saw the light

~

Murder and suicide, I staged the scene

Burn my clothes and then a shower

Had to be quick, had to be clean

No time to freak, nor to cower

~

Memories haunt me day and night

Still I arrive upon a dark horse

Can't escape that dreadful sight

Jealousy, such an ugly force

~

Time to move on, slow but steady

Fractured trust and a hardened heart

Life on pause, I'm getting ready

Baby steps, I'm compelled to start...

SUFFOCATING

By Dori Wheeler

Suffocating

Suffocating, fighting for air
Solitary, trapped inside my walls
Yet he continues on, not a care
Screams unheard, transmit these halls
Sheltered, drain my silent tears
Deafened by voices in my head
Need to breathe, to rid these fears
Caught within, I'm almost dead

MY HERO, MY STAR

By Dori Wheeler

MY HERO, MY STAR

Emotions ran high when you went away

They run even higher this very day

From a boy to a man in record time

You've grown so much, it feels sublime

~

Wear your uniform with truth and with pride

You earned it proudly, bonafide

Over time with blood, sweat, and fears

As your mom, I shed many tears

~

Grandpa was here with pride and joy

Comforting me gently over my little boy

His cologne in the air as I sobbed away

Didn't matter whether night or day

~

He served this land a different way

Stand with dignity as he did each day

Both in green, yet shine like the sun

You've done your best when day is done

~

I'm always with you, both near and far

Cheering you on, my hero, my star

I love you Travis, goes without saying

Know in your heart, I'm always praying

~

From a boy to a man in record time

You've grown so much, it feels sublime...

MYSTERIOUS

By Dori Wheeler
MYSTERIOUS

Twilight, mysterious and blissful
The moon is lowthe tide is high
Tomorrow almost ready to dawn
Emerging from clouds in the sky

Luna, manager of the seas
Bidding Ra adieu this night
More magical and mystical
Thank anything in the light

As nocturnal beings quiet down
My love for you begins to roar
Twilight, mysterious and blissful
Like the owl, I can't help but soar

You've left me wanton and hungry
Love me 'til the very end
While sun and moon meet in flight
And daylight's left to ascend...

ARMY OF SALVATION

By Dori Wheeler
ARMY OF SALVATION

Soldier in the army of salvation
Earth angel dressed in street attire
Freezing cold, rain, sleet or snow, I'm there
Ringing bells for the empire

Do you feel obligated to give?
So many benefit from your change
Hungry bellies fed, blankets bought
I work so hard for that exchange

If you have it to give, please don't pass by
Think of the children who will cry
When Santa doesn't show up with gifts
and his reindeer don't bother to fly....

BEACON

By Dori Wheeler
BEACON
'Twas a rainy Autumn night
You pulled me from dark to light
It's the kind of man you are
Yanking lost souls from the tar
You're my beacon in stormy seas
When I'm brought down to my knees
Glimmers become rays of hope
Learning all over to cope
Thank you dearest for your love
Guided to me from above
A warrior for the King
Sweet enough to make my heart sing...

CHESHIRE SMILE

By Dori Wheeler
CHERSHIRE SMILE

Alice, terrified and alone
So very far away from home
Tripped and fell, unconscious was she
In a strange land, she woke to be

Wandering about for awhile
She came upon a "Cheshire Smile"
A dashing, handsome man was he
His name was "Cat" and he was free

They went to a party, met some thugs
Everyone there was doing drugs
"One pill makes you large, one makes you small"
"Go ask Alice when she's ten feet tall"

Chessman have something to be said
Eating magic mushrooms, fried your head
So stoned, Alice can't find her way
Mr. Cat came to save the day

Frightened, she awoke to screams
All the drugs had been in her dreams
Yet, there was the Cheshire Smile
He had been there the whole time....

MAGIC SPELL

By Dori Wheeler
MAGIC SPELL
Who'd have known twenty years ago?
All the parley on the phone
Each with a crush on the other
Winding up in arms of another

Picking up where we left off
Each direct, nothing to scoff
With battle scars not so rare
Leading two hearts that truly care

Into the arms of each other we fell
What wizard cast a magic love spell?
Gazing into your eyes I found you
Lost in your hearts abyss, what to do?

No more searching, we've been found
Who knows where this love is bound?
You're trusting me to trust once more
For that, I love you to the core

Apart, I think only of you
Co-dependent, what to do?
The most complete I've ever felt
The magic's cast, cards are dealt

I'd like to promise you forever
How about never say never?
With battle scars not so rare
Leading two hearts that truly care....
