A Poet’s Release:
Thoughts From An Empty
Page
“Experience
is the name every one gives to their mistakes.”
~ Oscar Wilde
As we write, we express and as we express we teach. Not everyone
out there understands the heart of a poet or even breathes the
same air but I believe a passion is felt even when the definition
of feeling is not understood. I was reading an older poem by one
of our members Barbara Kausteklis and came up with the theme of
this poet’s release topic. It brought be back to a moment where I
was writing in a journal expressing thoughts I didn’t think
existed; at least not as deeply as they were released. Our
literature, in our cases, our poetry comes from places we may
like to keep hidden or thought was hidden from ourselves. When we
find that expression; when we begin to understand tears that have
dried we open up and expose apart of ourselves that makes us
recognizable as a familiar voice to those reading our inner fears
and external smiles. Someone once asked a question if poets could
change the world and my answer was simply…yes. We change the
world by writing a language through the vision of hope and the
fascination of imagination. We bring emotion to life through
experience and we grow as artists by recognizing the mistakes
that led us down the “right” paths. For this challenge, just open
a blank page. It can be a notebook or your computer screen. Just
let everything for that moment or those few captured minutes flow
out. Every Thought is a poem when you RELEASE!

Yes, i agree we poets can change the world. I like to share these
lines from a poem that i wrote.
The heart of the poet beats to the Song of life
A poet's words bring vibrancy and colors of divine to life
The poet can say what is shunned otherwise
A poet can give a meaning to life with words from his heart
A poet can channel the beautiful energy that flows in this
universe

Blank page
Blank page is spirit laziness.
Blank page is emptiness of soul.
Blank page is time without hope
and life without love.

No matter how many times I say I'm not
I do
Fall for something that's nothing
and
No matter how many times I say I don't
...I lie
Because I do want it
No matter how many times I say I'm strong
I fall weak
Don't know when real love will find me
Maybe I'm sitting in the wrong seat
because all I've loved couldn't possibly love me
They leave
and then come back to say I was one of the greats
and then I congratulate them on their wedding day
I've searched and I've been found
and yet...I cry familiar tears
This pain that's beating in my chest never heals
it never ceases
it continues beating
while dropping my ego to subzero
do you hear it...I just heard it echo
So many times my flesh confused love with lust
a smile with trust
but it felt good...
The epitome of love gone bad
and experiencing the new last names I never had
Daydreaming of a faceless mate
is what pushes me to the next day
Being an optimist is a curse
because I always see the best in the worst
Leading me to a statement that seems rehearsed...
...we're not together anymore...no, it didn't work out
The letters on this blank page just wore me out!!

What can I say I am often a literalist *virtual wink*
Thoughts From an Empty Page
Will I be ...
lined or
miss alined?
Perhaps a doodle
from big wig meeting
archly tossed
fetched by tabloid reporter
brought to light
to in lighten ...
Maybe, just maybe
an airplane
folded just so
sent soaring buoyantly
or some fancy origami ...
Could I become
some sticky hasty
grocery list
Or a lover's note
scheduling
a hasty lusty
tantalizing tryst?
Will I become
nightmare suicide's
last erratic word purge?
Perhaps, homework
the invisible dog
chewed after
chasing pixie cat ...
Maybe a master work
coloring words
changing the world forever
in evil or light?
Waiting I wonder ...

What's a Word Worth?
What’s a word worth without meaning?
As my thoughts flow like feelings
From a pen onto the page
With all the rage of the world on my shoulders
I’m getting bolder
Always wiser, never older
Willing to push on and move forward
Pioneer, discover, uncover, recover,
Salvage any shred
Of humanity we ever had
Before we got mad at ourselves
Put our love up on shelves
Locked up our spirits at twelve
And crawled into our shells
It tells when sex sells
Our passion swells into hells of sorrow,
Heavens of joy!
Uniform patterns like corduroy destroy
Any perception we ever had
Of the subtle difference between good and bad
Aren’t you glad we’ve never had to make that choice?
Never had to choose a voice with which to side?
Instead we choose to hide
Well I chide all those who dwell in stagnant thoughts
Their behavior drives a wedge between the haves and the have
nots
But I’m born to weather all types of storm
And fuck with the norm
As I dance to the tune of Gabriel’s horn

To fall
into an empty page
Unlined,
unknown, not seamed
Is just a
breath of rhyme and then
Undone,
under, between
The
LINES
